With a heavy heart I’m putting a feeler out there to see if there’s any interest in my 1972 Volkswagen deluxe baywindow. I spent the last 2 years meticulously restoring and upgrading, going over pretty much every square inch of it. I have used the best quality new and used parts I could find. Approx $20,000 in receipts for new parts.
Body: All rust cut out and repaired. Such a pass side corner, pass side battery tray, drivers rocker replaced, and other small places new cargofloors. Chassis sandblasted and put in expoyprimer. All welding done and no welding needed. The wheels wells and chassis all cleaned.
Brakes: Pretty much the entire braking system has been gone through and replaced except for the brake booster (it is OG and seems fine), All new hard and soft lines all around, new rotors, new callipers with new pads and new backing plates, new ebrake cables, new rear backing plates, drums, pads and hardware.
Transmission: Has been upgraded to a 091/6 rib trans from a late bay, cleaned with brand new starter. Shift rods cleaned and painted with new bushings front to back. New shift coupler. New cvs and new axles. New throwout bearing, clutch and flywheel. Probably one of the nicest shifting busses you’ve ever driven
Motor: upgraded to a 2000cc motor out of late bay. Color matched to body with dual 40mm rebuilt dellortos carbs, (also comes with csp linkage, new electric fuel pump and gauge, new fuel lines, new tank with new muffler, new heaterboxes. New motor mounts. It’s fairly fast (for a old Vw bus!). New gastank.
Steering/Suspension: new koni shocks all around, rear spring plates reindexed with new bushings, steering has been gone through with new upper and lower ball joints, inner and outer tie rods, drag link and steering dampener. New csp lowered baywindow axle, dropped spindels, new ssp 5×112 wheels with new tires.
Interior: new tmi black panels, new tmi rear seat cover, middle seat needs new seatcover. All rubber floormats. Original headliner. New kickpanels
Misc: H4 headlights, brand new front turn signals and new housing, new rear lenses and new housings. New mirrors. New door panels. New main wiring loom.
I’m sure I’m forgetting lots of other stuff….
Lots more pictures available, tons from the resto process and can take pictures of anything you’d like. Nose is repaired from a little bump, but you can see the bodywork from inside, behind the kickpanels.
This thing still needs a little bit of love, but if you have the time to do it over the next couple months, you’ll have one of the best vans money can buy.
